Fuel a Future Collection Drive
In January 2026, participation in the Tata Mumbai Marathon helped raise INR 2,34,600 in support of Akshay Patra’s operations. These funds were earmarked for the procurement, transport, and distribution of meals and foodstuffs at the institution. The 10k run served as a powerful platform to rally community support for large-scale nutritional access.
FEED Survey
Conducted across November and December 2025, the FEED Survey assessed the food and dietary preferences of children benefitting from the mid-day meal scheme. The findings were designed to inform more responsive and culturally aligned meal planning, ensuring that nutritional interventions reflect the actual tastes and needs of the students they serve.
Food for Thought
Running from February to March 2026, the Food for Thought interview series documented the lived impact of the mid-day meal program through the voices of those closest to it. Interviews were conducted with managerial-level staff at Akshay Patra, teachers at partner schools, and—crucially—school children, their family members, volunteers, and kitchen workers. By prioritizing ground-level and grassroots perspectives, the series captured the diverse challenges and circumstances faced by students at collaborating schools, while also illuminating the everyday insights of those working within the food organization.
FEED White Paper
Completed in June 2026, the FEED White Paper—titled Hidden Hunger in the Classroom: From Culturally-Aware Nutrition to Educational Equity—examines how food insecurity shapes the social and learning needs of school children, and how culturally sensitive interventions can address these challenges at medium and large scales. Drawing from interviews with the Akshay Patra Foundation, the paper underscores the need for systemic change through public policy that promotes culturally aware food access. It further explores the many forms of labour required to run a successful large-scale community kitchen, and critically evaluates the flaws and deficiencies of the mid-day meal program through a rigorous assessment of such interventions.
Plates of Plenty Booklet
Researched, designed, and distributed in January 2026, a booklet of three educational pamphlets were produced in Hindi, English, and Marathi for families and school staff. These resources translated complex nutritional data into actionable guidance, focusing on key nutritional deficiencies and practical, low-cost meal solutions to address them.
FEED+ NourishCheck Camp
Organized in January 2026 in partnership with the Ministry of Social Justice and Impact and the CSR wings of several Mumbai-based corporations, the FEED+ NourishCheck Camp directly screened children for key nutritional deficiencies. The camp provided foundational health assessments, collected vital data on prevalent deficiencies, and offered immediate, actionable guidance to families and the foundation. With 2,000 attendees, services included free eye check-ups, full body assessments, and BMI screenings. The Plates of Plenty pamphlets were distributed at the camp, alongside a speech on the importance of nutrition for physical and cognitive well-being and low-cost ways to achieve it.
Documentation: A Letter of Recommendation from the Minister was received in recognition of the camp’s impact.
Between Silence and Hunger Documentary
Produced in January 2026, Between Silence and Hunger is a short documentary film that visually captures the critical need for systemic hunger interventions. Through intimate testimonials from children, families, teachers, and kitchen staff, the film documents the daily realities of food insecurity and the tangible impact of the mid-day meal program. By pairing personal narratives with footage from schools and community kitchens, the documentary serves as a compelling advocacy tool—moving beyond statistics to humanize the issue, drive emotional engagement, and inspire urgent support from a broader audience.
