Food Equity and Empowerment Drive (FEED) is a student-led initiative that aims to tackle the systemic problem of child hunger, through combining evidence-based interventions with advocacy, to tackle malnutrition. We aim to contribute towards enhancing child nutrition, which we approach as a moral obligation, a civic duty, and a developmental concern.
In addition to supporting meal delivery, via fundraising and collaborating with large-scale food organizations to provide healthy meals to children from underserved communities, this initiative will collect data on the long-term effects of meals on learning outcomes. The initiative’s fundamental tenet is that systemic problems, such as child hunger, require systemic solutions. As such, we seek to conduct surveys and interviews, in order to draft long-form articles with research papers to envision a holistic approach to food security, that takes into account proper nutritional needs, socio-cultural factors, and dietary preferences. Lastly, we aim to create a pledge network of potential donors, and seek them to commit to supporting food organizations, with the aim of building a community that works together to tackle malnutrition in children.
